Asheville Chapter
Monthly Meetings
Note from Mitch:
Wanted to let you know that we had a great first meeting in November at the Botanical Gardens at Asheville. Out of that meeting came a group tasked with creating an event to draw more folks to the WNC Chapter of the NC Native Plant Society. The event has been decided, but are still working out a few of the details. The event will be on Sat., Feb. 2, 9:30-2:30, in the Education Center at the NC Arboretum and will feature Patrick McMillan from Clemson University. His topic will be rare plants and plant communities of the Blue Ridge Escarpment. Our second presenter is Amy Fahmy, Biltmore Farms Horticulturist, who will speak on the sustainable development of The Ramble in South Asheville that includes rescuing native plants, preserving them along greenways and park corridors and introducing native plants into common areas and residential lots.

Lunch will be available from the on-site cafe.
Please RSVP to me so I can know how many of you will attend!
The symposium will be free, but there will be a $6 parking fee, cash or Traveler's Check. This is the usual fee at the Arboretum, but if you are a member of the Arboretum then you may enter for free. Please let me know if you are a member of the Arboretum. Vans are $25 and buses are $45. Also, note that from gate to symposium site can take :15-:20 depending on traffic.
Once on the campus follow road and signs to Baker Center. Park at Baker Center and walk back to drive and proceed left to the Education Center. Go up steps to door and you'll be directed to symposium room. If you require handicapped parking continue past Baker Center and go behind the Education Center for parking. If you will be dropped off, please ask whomever is parking to go back to Baker Center to park unless a handicapped parking decal/hanger is in view. If they have a handicapped decal/hanger then park in handicapped area behind the Education Center. If you don't park in the correct lot then you will be asked to move your vehicle.
Finally, we are looking for volunteers to assist with the following:
- sign placement at the Arboretum
- directing attendees to correct entrance of Education Center
- parking direction
- vendor direction
- set-up assistance
You will enter for free.
Please help spread the word.
I look forward to seeing you on Feb. 2 at the WNC Chapter's Native Plant Symposium!
