Forty Acre Rock Day Trip

A day trip to the Forty Acre Rock Heritage Preserve in Lancaster County, SC.

Join us for this day trip to Forty Acre Rock Preserve - home to a large granite flatrock which supports a number of rare and unusual plants. The surrounding 2000 plus acres, where the coastal plain meets the piedmont, supports plants from both geographical regions and some usually seen in the mountain region. This trip is sponsored by the NCNPS - Charlotte Chapter, the SC Native Plant Society of the Piedmont and the Museum of York County. Participation is by reservation only! This will be a popular trip so make your reservations early. The Museum of York County is handling reservations. Only 40 participants is allowed. The trip is free for official members of the NCNPS, SCNPS or Museum of York County. The fee is $5 for nonmembers. The NC group will carpool to the site in 2 groups. Dr. Mellichamp will lead one group from UNCC and Lisa Tompkins will lead one from points south - Union County, Southern Mecklenburg. Please indicate your carpool preference when you make your reservation. Trip leaders are Dr. Larry Mellichamp, UNCC Botanical Gardens and Dr. George Sawyer, Coker College and Kalmia Gardens, retired. The trip will last from 2.5 to 3 hours with moderate difficulty so dress appropriately!
